This leatherworking class will include leather construction, joinery, pattern making and finishing. The sessions are built around you mastering core techniques: saddle stitching, edge-finishing, cutting and findings. This class will give you a solid foundation for continuing to design and fabricate your own leather goods and you will create finished products such as a leather belt, bag, or wallet which will last a lifetime.
Emily grew up on the Blue Ridge Parkway where she was immersed in a culture of Appalachian Craft from the very beginning. She attended the University of Arkansas and Appalachian State University where she studied Making Practices and received a doctorate in the subject. She did a TED talk called Craftonomics which summarizes her research in the area. Emily’s primary mediums are constantly evolving, but currently, she’s working in wood, leather and stained glass.
