Shibori (Fabric Dye)

Master the art of shibori, a Japanese dyeing technique that results in rich patterns from indigo color. By bundling the fabric in five different ways, you can produce a traditional set of prints including arashi, kumo, itajime, and ne-maki.! No previous experience necessary. This workshop is free. Ages 62 & Up Only. Please have ID present for verification.

Teaching Artist Emily Miller

Emily Miller


Emily grew up on the Blue Ridge Parkway where she was immersed in a culture of Appalachian Craft from the very beginning.  She attended the University of Arkansas and Appalachian State University where she studied Making Practices and received a doctorate in the subject.  She did a TED talk called Craftonomics which summarizes her research in the area.  Emily’s primary mediums are constantly evolving, but currently, she’s working in wood, leather and stained glass.
