Natalie Conway will cover painting basics and provide structure and support for the creation of a small body of work based on your personal interests. The first classes will focus on explorations of material, color, and composition through master studies, painting from life, and experiments in abstraction. Meanwhile, a survey of historical and contemporary painting will help you identify content, styles, and methods of working that excite you. In the second half of the course, you will create work focused on the subject matter, techniques, and/or formal issues of your choice. Throughout, we will discuss and critique as a group, with a commitment to respect and encouragement.

Gelli plates are an easy way to make your own mono prints. Using nothing but acrylic paint and scrap papers you can make individual pieces of art, fantastic collage fodder, your own stationary, tags 🏷 or cards, or beautiful papers to include in an art journal or a bullet journal. This is a beginner class but students will all end up with beautiful art papers they have made themselves.

LEDs are amazing devices that allow light to be put practically anywhere. They are extremely versatile and are available in a wide range of colors, intensities and forms. Many applications are simple, easily within reach of any artist, and others are more complex, allowing exciting effects and animation. In our LED Lights for Artist class, we will employ an amazing and fun device called an Arduino. Although the Arduino uses a programming language called C++, no knowledge of the language is needed to use it to make awesome effects. Sign up for Eugene Sargent’s class online today!
